Three day theater workshop started in JC Bose University

Education/Alive News: JC Bose University today marked the commencement of its highly anticipated Three-Day Theatre Workshop with a spectacular Inaugural Ceremony.The event is being organized under the guidance of Vice-Chancellor Prof. SK Tomar. The ceremony was graced by the presence of numerous distinguished guests, faculty members, and students, setting the stage for an enriching and immersive theatrical experience.

The event commenced with a warm and hearty welcome extended to the students by the workshop’s coordinator, Mamta Bansal, Assistant Professor of English. Following this, Dr. Divyajyoti Singh, Professor of English and Convenor of the workshop, presented a captivating concept note, shedding light on the workshop’s inception and purpose.

Initially designed to cater to the specific needs of literature students at the university, the workshop’s organizers were thrilled to witness an overwhelming response from students across various disciplines. It became evident that theatre and performance held a profound and transformative appeal for participants from diverse backgrounds.

The participants had the privilege of hosting the renowned thespian, actor, and director, Prof. Dr. Ravi Chaturvedi, an alumnus of the National School of Drama (NSD) and the Film and Television Institute of India (FTII), who graced the occasion as the Guest of Honour. Dr. Shiv Singh Pahlawat, Secretary of the Indian Society of Theatre Research, added to the event’s luster with his presence.

Also, Harshvardhan, a distinguished alumnus of the university, shared his expertise and insights during the workshop. The workshop’s proceedings featured an array of engaging activities, including theatre exercises conducted by Harshvardhan and an enlightening discourse by Prof. Ravi Chaturvedi. Prof. Chaturvedi’s presentation drew parallels between Bharata’s Natyashastra and Aristotle’s Poetics, illuminating the distinctions between Indian and Western traditions of performance.

The Presidential Address was delivered by Prof. Poonam Singhal, the Dean of the Faculty of Liberal Arts and Media Studies. Prof. Singhal emphasized the vital role of humanities-oriented courses in universities and the significance of holistic education.With an impressive turnout of 150 participants, the workshop is poised to provide invaluable insights and experiences to all attendees.

Prof. Atul Mishra, the Chairperson of the Department of Literature and Languages, extended heartfelt gratitude to all involved in organizing this remarkable event. The successful execution of the Three-Day Theatre Workshop was made possible by the tireless efforts of the department’s dedicated faculty, including Prerna, Anita, Rachita, as well as research scholars within the department. MA Rahmani, Assistant Professor, played an integral role in the workshop’s organization and success.
