Sports/Alive News: Aaryavir Sehwag and Anvay Dravid, sons of former India cricketers Virender Sehwag and Rahul Dravid, have been named in India’s squad for the ACC Men’s Under-19 Asia Cup, scheduled to be held in Muscat, Oman, from November 5 to 14.
The duo earned selection after impressive performances in the recently concluded Vinoo Mankad Trophy. Anvay, representing Karnataka, scored an aggressive 151 off 100 balls as his team chased down a target of more than 300 runs against Gujarat earlier this month.
The 17-year-old wicketkeeper-batter had also impressed in July, scoring 87 off 67 balls against Sri Lanka in a Youth ODI at Hambantota.
Delhi batter Aaryavir, 19, also displayed his batting prowess in the Vinoo Mankad Trophy, smashing 173 off 143 deliveries against Chandigarh in Vizianagaram.
India will be led by Lakshya Raichandani and have been placed in Group A alongside Pakistan, Nepal and the United Arab Emirates (UAE). Group B comprises Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Afghanistan and Malaysia. The top two teams from each group will qualify for the semi-finals.
India will begin its campaign against Nepal on November 6, followed by a high-profile clash against Pakistan on November 8. The team will face the UAE in its final group-stage match on November 10. All three matches will be played in Muscat.
India’s squad includes captain Lakshya Raichandani, vice-captain Yashbardhan Singh Chauhan, Aaryavir Sehwag, Anvay Dravid, V.K. Vineeth, Kushagra Ojha, Arjun Rajput, Manal Chauhan, Rajat Baghel, V. Yashveer, Aryan Savsani, Mohit Ulva, Kavya Patel, Shavin Vinod and Ishan Sood.
The tournament will provide the young players an opportunity to test themselves against Asia’s leading Under-19 teams.
