Opposition Postpones Public Impeachment Programme Against CEC to Saturday

New Delhi/Alive News: The Opposition’s public impeachment programme against Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar, scheduled to be held at Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge’s residence in Delhi on Friday, has been postponed to Saturday due to rain. Congress leader Rahul Gandhi announced the decision, urging political groups, student organisations and citizens to participate in the November 1 rally at Ramlila Maidan.

“We have decided to postpone today’s programme to tomorrow because of the rain. The following day, we will march to Ramlila Maidan,” Rahul said.

He alleged that the government was trying to prevent people from reaching Delhi for the march. According to him, people travelling from Rajasthan, Punjab, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Telangana and other states were being stopped.

The INDIA bloc is organising the ‘Vote Bachao, Desh Bachao’ rally to protest against the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls and the functioning of the Election Commission. The Opposition is demanding Gyanesh Kumar’s resignation.

Trade body seeks postponement of rally

The Chamber of Trade and Industry (CTI) has written to Congress leader Sonia Gandhi, urging her to postpone the November 1 rally. The organisation estimates that the event could affect business worth ₹10,000-12,000 crore across 20 markets in Delhi due to traffic restrictions and congestion. It has suggested holding the rally after Diwali or shifting it to Burari Ground.

CJP may join INDIA bloc

The Cockroach People’s Party (CJP) has extended support to the rally. Party leader Ashutosh Ranka said supporters could participate in the event. The party has also sought feedback from its workers on the possibility of joining the INDIA bloc.

Rahul Gandhi has appealed to student organisations to join the march, describing it as a movement to protect democracy, the Constitution and citizens’ freedom of expression. He said the protest was not limited to any single political party but was aimed at safeguarding the country’s democratic institutions.
