New Delhi/Alive News: The Supreme Court on Friday cancelled the bail granted to expelled Janata Dal (United) leader and Mokama MLA Anant Singh by the Patna High Court in March 2026 in the 2025 Dularchand Yadav murder case. The court directed Singh to surrender by December 1 and return to jail.
A Bench of Justices MM Sundresh and Prasanna B Varale also directed the Bihar government to complete the investigation within four months. The court was hearing a petition seeking cancellation of Singh’s bail.
During the hearing, Singh’s counsel informed the Bench that a wedding was scheduled in his family on November 25. Taking the submission into consideration, the court allowed him time until December 1 to surrender. The matter will be taken up again after the investigation is completed.
What is the Dularchand Yadav murder case?
The case dates back to October 30, 2025, during the Bihar Assembly elections. Singh was contesting from Mokama on a JDU ticket, while Dularchand Yadav was campaigning for Jan Suraj candidate Piyush Priyadarshi.
According to the account of the incident, the two groups’ convoys came face to face during campaigning, leading to violence in which Yadav died. Singh was arrested in connection with the case but won the Assembly election while in custody. He was subsequently released after the Patna High Court granted him bail in March 2026.
Anant Singh expelled from JDU
On October 24, the JDU expelled Singh and his wife, former MLA Neelam Devi, for six years. The party accused them of acting against its interests, including campaigning against its candidate in the Legislative Council elections.
Following the expulsion, the Bihar government also initiated action concerning Neelam Devi’s official residence and withdrew her position in the 20-Point Programme Implementation Committee.
