Delhi/Alive News: Actor, filmmaker, and mentor Boman Irani highlighted the importance of strong screenwriting during his session at the International Film Festival Delhi 2026. He also attended the screening of his film The Mehta Boys at the festival.
Speaking about his journey, Irani shared how turning ideas into a proper screenplay is one of the biggest challenges in filmmaking. He said that while India has many powerful stories, the real skill lies in structuring them effectively for the screen.
Through his initiative Spiral Bound, Irani has conducted more than 800 free mentoring sessions for aspiring writers over the past six years. What started during the pandemic has now become a strong platform to support new storytellers.
He emphasized that every successful film begins with a well-written script, as direction, acting, and execution all depend on it.
“We have some of the greatest stories in this country, but there is a science to turning them into a screenplay. Without that, nothing moves forward,” he said.
Irani also spoke about expanding opportunities for young writers through workshops and international exposure. His participation at the festival, both as a mentor and filmmaker, added value to discussions on building a stronger and more skilled creative ecosystem in Indian cinema.
