National/Alive News: Former Indian cricketer and Trinamool Congress MP Yusuf Pathan is reportedly set to receive a disputed plot of land in Vadodara, Gujarat, following years of legal and administrative disputes. Under a proposed arrangement, half of the land may be allotted to him without charge, while he will have to pay for the remaining portion.
The plot, measuring around 1,000 square metres, is located next to the Pathan family’s residence in the Tandalja area of Vadodara. Pathan first sought the land in 2012, citing security concerns linked to his status as an international cricketer. He had reportedly requested a 99-year lease.
According to reports, the Gujarat administration has now worked out a framework to settle the dispute. The estimated payment for the portion Pathan would purchase is around ₹10 crore. Revenue and municipal authorities are expected to coordinate the formal transfer, subject to the applicable approvals and procedures.
The dispute continued for years because the land belonged to the Vadodara Municipal Corporation. Authorities had earlier raised objections to transferring public land without a transparent bidding process. After Pathan won the Berhampur Lok Sabha seat in 2024 on a Trinamool Congress ticket, the civic body issued him a notice over alleged encroachment. Pathan challenged the notice in the Gujarat High Court.
Recent court proceedings reportedly added pressure to resolve the matter, after which Pathan’s pending appeals were withdrawn unconditionally, according to the report.
The development has also drawn political attention because of reports that Pathan was among Trinamool Congress MPs who switched allegiance to join the NDA in June 2026. The timing has prompted questions about the decision, although a political connection has not been established.
Pathan played his last ODI and T20 international matches for India in March 2012. He also represented Kolkata Knight Riders in the Indian Premier League from 2011 to 2017.
The proposed land settlement remains subject to verification of the government order, allotment terms and required legal approvals.
