University word removed from Manav Rachna and Lingaya’s University after SC order

Faridabad/ Alive News: The Supreme Court issued a notification against those Deemed Universities who are using the word “University” in which the Court has instructed the institutions to remove the word till December, otherwise their recognition will be canceled. The Hon’ble Supreme Court vide orders dated 3 Nov-2017 under para 51 and 53 (XII) observed and said that it has come to our notice that many institutions which are conferred the status of Deemed to be Universities are using the word “University”, which in our view is opposed to the spirit of Section 23 of the UGC Act.

“No institution, whether a corporate body or not, other than a University established or incorporated by or under a Central Act, a Provincial Act or a State Act shall be entitled to have the word “University” associated with its name in any manner whatsoever.” The UGC shall take appropriate steps to stop such practice.” After an order of the Court, The UGC has issued a notification against institutions to remove the ‘University Word” within a month. Actually, the UGC has issued a list of total 123 institution across the country in which two institutions as Manav Rachna International University and Lingaya’s University, Faridabad is also in line there which the UGC has sent notification. The Court has further directed to the UGC to take appropriate steps and implement Section 23 of the UGC Act and restrain Deemed to be Universities from using the word ‘University’ within one month from today.”

We have already sent a proposal as Manav Rachna International Institute of Research and Study (Deemed to be Universities) to the UGC and have started implementation.
