National PR Day celebrated at MRIU

Faridabad: The Public Relation Society of India (PRSI) and Manav Rachna International University (MRIU) jointly organized a seminar on the occasion of the National PR Day being observed today on the theme, “One Voice, One Nation: Building bridges of trust through PR”.

Sh. N Venudhar Reddy, ADG-DAVP who was the Chief Guest on the occasion spoke about the changing paradigms of reporting and public relations over the past few decades. “With millions of smart phones today, each one of us is a reporter and therefore the job of a PR and a news reporter has become more challenging. The social media has emerged as the medium to break news. A PR person should therefore focus on making unique content”.

Sh. Rajagopalan, Chairman, PRSI briefed the students and the dignitaries about the Public Relations Society of India. News Anchors Syed Ansari (Aaj Tak) and Gaurav Soni (IBN 7) stressed that PR professionals today have far more responsibility than in yester years. They deliberated upon the need of building trust. “It is the communications professional that builds a consumer’s relationship with a brand. They are the custodians of the Trust enjoyed by a brand and this Trust can make or break a brand”.

 

Dr. Neemo Dhar, Dean, Faculty of Media Studies and Humanities, MRIU made a presentation on the subject. Dr. N C Wadhwa, VC-MRIU was also present on the occasion.

Prof. (Dr.) Vijay Vancheshwar, IMI & Great Lakes Institute shared case studies on successful PR and messaging campaigns. Reputation Management within internal and external stakeholders was discussed in detail.

It was concluded that Public relations is no longer about dissemination of information but the Public Relations has emerged as a filter of information. In the fast era of news dissemination, it is the job of the PR person to authenticate and validate facts.
