New Delhi/Alive News: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) emerged as the biggest winner in the latest elections to 28 Legislative Council seats across Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Maharashtra and Karnataka. The Congress, meanwhile, managed to secure just one seat, winning the Nagpur Graduates’ Constituency in Maharashtra for the second consecutive time.
Despite its overall performance, the BJP suffered setbacks in two politically significant constituencies: the Varanasi Teachers’ Constituency in Uttar Pradesh, which falls within Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s parliamentary constituency, and the Nagpur Graduates’ Constituency, associated with Union Minister Nitin Gadkari’s parliamentary seat. Both seats went to the opposition.
The results saw victories for the BJP, Samajwadi Party (SP), Janata Dal (United), Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), Shiv Sena led by Eknath Shinde, the Sharad Pawar faction of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), Janata Dal (Secular), Jan Suraaj Party and independent candidates.

BJP Leads Overall, but Opposition Scores Key Wins
The results underline the BJP’s strong performance across the four states, while also highlighting the opposition’s ability to hold or capture important constituencies. The Samajwadi Party performed strongly in Uttar Pradesh, while the Congress secured a notable victory in Nagpur. In Maharashtra, the Sharad Pawar-led NCP faction also made gains.
The outcome provides a mixed political picture: the BJP emerged as the largest winner overall, but its defeats in Varanasi and Nagpur offered the opposition significant victories in politically prominent constituencies.
