Madras HC Issues Notice on Plea Seeking Probe into Saurav Das’s Nationality

Madras/Alive News: The Madras High Court on Friday issued notice to the Centre and other respondents on a petition seeking an investigation into the nationality and background of journalist and Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) spokesperson Saurav Das. The plea also seeks cancellation of his passport and Aadhaar card if he is found to be a foreign national, besides blocking his social media accounts over alleged derogatory remarks against the judiciary.

A Division Bench comprising Chief Justice SA Dharmadhikari and Justice G Arul Murugan sought responses from the respondents and listed the matter for hearing after six weeks.

The petition, filed by Ganesh Kumar, identifies Das as “Yogesh Sharma alias Saurav Das”. It alleges that he made derogatory remarks against the judiciary, including judges of the Supreme Court. The petitioner has sought an inquiry into Das’s nationality, background, personal details and those of his parents.

The plea also urges the Union Home Ministry and other authorities to verify documents relating to his identity and addresses. Additionally, it seeks directions to the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology to block his X and Instagram accounts and restrain him from making further allegedly derogatory statements against the judiciary.

During the hearing, the Bench examined documents submitted by the petitioner and sought clarification on certain details. The court also questioned the manner in which the alleged remarks were made and asked whether a complaint had been lodged with the relevant authorities.

The petitioner’s counsel informed the court that a representation had been submitted to the Central government on October 7, 2026, but no action had been taken so far.

After considering the preliminary submissions, the court issued notices to the respondents. Advocate B Jagannath appeared for the petitioner.
