Expert Lecture on Navigating Narratives as medium of Media Ecosystem

Faridabad/Alive News : J.C. Bose University of Science & Technology, YMCA, has organized an expert lecture on “Navigating Narratives as medium of Media Ecosystem” for faculty and media students on 19th April 2024. The programme was inaugurated by guest speaker Shri. Umesh Upadhyay, Senior Journalist, Prof. S.K. Tomar, Vice-Chancellor, Dr. Pawan Singh, Chairperson and other dignitaries. The programme was coordinated by Dr. Bharat Dhiman and Dr. Taruna Narula, Assistant Professor of the department.

The guest speaker for the Lecture was Shri. Umesh Upadhyay who is a veteran journalist and communicator with four decades of experience in print, radio, TV, and digital media. The Lecture commenced with a welcome address by Dr. Pawan Singh, Chairperson of the department. During the session, Shri. Umesh talked on Western Media Narratives on India. He explained how cultural imperialism influences the Third-World nations. He stressed on India, that how the narrative spans from the nation’s independence in 1947 to the present day, scrutinizing the relentless targeting of Indian leadership by the dominant Western English media.

He also highlighted about his book “Western Media Narratives on India From Gandhi to Modi” He stated that the Western media crafted a narrative portraying India’s response to the disaster as chaotic, forecasting a staggering death toll reminiscent of the Spanish Flu of 1918. He further elaborated that the Western media’s approach to India shows how the English press continues to perpetuate the West’s long-held prejudices against India. Drawing heavily from history, the book critically analyses and unravels the origins and causes of this bias.

While rooted in the Indian experience, the lessons derived hold universal relevance for any nation grappling with the shadows of colonization. After the session, Author Signature ceremony was held with the keynote thanks to all the dignitaries present on the occasion. Students acquired a practical exposure to Western Media narrative on India and its importance in today’s time. At the end of the program, chairperson expressed his gratitude to all the students, teachers, and the chief guest. The chairperson also congratulated and appreciated the effort made by the faculty member and promised to organize a more practical exposure lecture for students in the future.
