New Delhi/Alive News: New pollution-control restrictions under Delhi’s Winter Pollution Action Plan came into effect on November 1, 2026. The measures aim to reduce air pollution during the winter season and will remain in force until February 28, 2027.
Under the new rules, vehicles registered outside Delhi that do not meet BS-VI emission standards will be banned from entering the capital from November 1 to January 31, 2027. This restriction will also affect older vehicles coming from Noida, Gurugram, Faridabad and Ghaziabad. Electric and CNG vehicles, along with emergency vehicles, are exempted.
Government and private offices have been directed to allow only 50% of their employees to work from the office. The remaining staff will work from home. Essential services are exempt from this rule.
Parking charges at several public parking facilities have also been doubled to discourage people from using private vehicles. This increase will continue until February 28, 2027, but will not apply to Delhi Metro parking facilities.
Construction and demolition activities that generate dust will remain restricted until January 31, with additional restrictions between December 10 and January 20. Essential infrastructure work may receive exemptions.
Another major rule requires vehicles to have a valid Pollution Under Control (PUC) certificate to purchase petrol, diesel or CNG. ANPR cameras installed at 500 petrol pumps will help identify vehicles without valid certificates.
The government will use AI technology and special enforcement teams to monitor violations. Drivers breaking the rules may receive electronic challans.
Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has appealed to residents to follow the restrictions and cooperate in controlling air pollution.
