Business/Alive News: Meta, the parent company of Facebook and Instagram, has introduced a voluntary exit scheme for employees in France. The move comes as major technology companies, including Google and Microsoft, look to reduce costs and restructure their workforces.
According to French publication La Lettre, Meta is offering generous severance packages to employees who choose to leave the company voluntarily. The scheme could affect around 100 of the 300 employees working at Meta’s France office. However, the company has not officially confirmed the number of employees involved.
Employees to Receive Nearly 11 Months’ Salary
Under the scheme, employees will receive compensation equal to 2.15 months’ salary for every year of service. For example, an employee who has worked at Meta for five years will receive compensation equivalent to 10.75 months’ salary, calculated at 80% of their gross salary.
Employees interested in the offer must submit their applications by November 5.
Support for New Careers and Businesses
Meta is also offering professional training to help employees develop new skills and prepare for fresh career opportunities. The company will provide guidance and support to those interested in starting their own businesses.
The programme follows a French labour law provision known as ‘Rupture Conventionnelle Collective’ (RCC). Under this arrangement, companies negotiate voluntary departure terms with trade unions and employee representatives. Unlike forced layoffs, employees can choose whether to participate.
Tech Companies Focus on Cost-Cutting
Meta’s decision comes amid a wider restructuring trend in the technology industry, driven by cost-cutting measures and increasing investment in artificial intelligence. Google and Microsoft have also introduced voluntary exit schemes in different markets. Meta has carried out several rounds of layoffs over the past two years.
