New Delhi/Alive News: The Supreme Court on Tuesday issued notices to Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and others on a petition seeking registration of an FIR over allegations that Gandhi pushed a pregnant woman journalist during a march to the Supreme Court on October 12.
The matter was mentioned before a bench comprising Chief Justice Surya Kant and Justice Joymalya Bagchi. Advocate Gaurav Bhatia informed the court that an application had been filed in an already-pending petition, alleging that the journalist was manhandled on the Supreme Court premises.
The petition seeks directions for the registration of an FIR against Gandhi and others allegedly involved in the incident, along with compensation for the journalist.
According to the petition, Gandhi allegedly pushed the woman towards a gate in a crowded area, causing her to lose her balance. She reportedly used her hands to prevent herself from falling. The plea claims the incident occurred in the presence of security personnel, journalists and other people, and alleges that the push was not accidental.
On October 12, BJP spokesperson Pradeep Bhandari shared a video alleging that Gandhi elbowed the journalist and pulled her by the shoulder, causing her to fall and sustain injuries. Bhandari later shared a video of the journalist in hospital, claiming she had been admitted for treatment.
BJP Delhi vice-president Rajesh Bhatia said he visited the hospital with BJP MLA Umang Bajaj and local leader Prateek Sharma after being informed about the incident by the journalist’s sister.
The allegations remain subject to judicial consideration.
