Value Added Course on Waste Handling and Management begins at JC Bose University

Faridabad/Alive News: JC Bose University of Science and Technology in collaboration with Vasundhara Eco-Club, initiated a Value-Added Course titled “Waste Handling and Management: Strategies and Practices.” The revolutionary 30-hours skill development program aims at addressing the pressing issue of waste management through education and practical training. The program will be attended by the students from interdisciplinary background including Engineering, Science and Management.

The inaugural session witnessed the esteemed presence of Chief Guest of the program, Prof. Narsi Ram Bishnoi, Vice-Chancellor, Guru Jambheshwar University of Science and Technology, Hisar, Haryana. The session was presided over by Prof. Sushil Kumar Tomar, Vice-Chancellor of JC Bose University of Science and Technology YMCA Faridabad. University. In his address, Vice-Chancellor of J.C. Bose University, Prof. Sushil Kumar Tomar, emphasized the significance of the balance between economy and ecology. He underscored that the exponential increase in waste is a challenge in front of us and the solution are to be found by academicians and researchers.

Chief Guest, Prof. Narsi Ram Bishnoi, shared the importance of 3Rs – Reduce, Reuse and Recycle. He showed the concern towards different types of waste produced and their harmful effects. He motivated and encouraged the students to think differently and find the solution to the problems of waste management. Earlier, the event commenced with traditional rituals, including Lamp Lighting and Saraswati Vandana, symbolizing enlightenment and knowledge. Dignitaries were honoured with plant saplings, emphasizing the importance of environmental conservation and sustainable practices.

Dr. Renuka Gupta, Chairperson of Department of Environmental Sciences welcomed the Chief Guest and other dignitaries. She highlighted the importance and learning outcomes of the course and emphasized that huge piles of waste produced in metropolitan cities could be reprocessed and can be used as raw material for other purpose which can be a great contribution towards achieving Sustainable Development Goals. Alok Bhatnagar, Professor of Practice, Department of Electrical Engineering, gave the insight of this academic and practical program and informed that the new and innovative technology for waste handling and management would be discussed in next 15 days program.

He apprised that this program will enhance Capacity Building among stakeholders for integrated solid waste management by interaction with experts, entrepreneurs and policy makers. Moreover, knowledge acquired in this program will encourage the entrepreneurship opportunities. Dr. Preeti Sethi, a member of Vasundhara Eco-Club expressed gratitude to dignitaries, organizing committee members and all participants. The ceremony concluded with National Anthem followed by a group photograph. The organizing team members Dr. Preeti Sethi, Dr. Sakhi, Dr. Rupali, Dr. Navish Kataria and Dr. Anita Girdhar were also present on the occasion.
