Valmiki’s Teachings Offer a Path to Humanity and Social Harmony: Nayab Singh Saini

Chandigarh/Alive News: Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini on Sunday said that Maharishi Valmiki’s Ramayana continues to guide humanity towards righteous living, patience, compassion, perseverance and social harmony. He was addressing a state-level celebration of Maharishi Valmiki Jayanti organised at Sant Kabir Kutir under the state government’s Sant Mahapurush Vichar Samman and Prachar-Prasar Yojana.

Paying tribute to Maharishi Valmiki, the Chief Minister announced a grant of ₹31 lakh for the Valmiki hostel under construction in Hisar and said he would visit the site for its foundation-laying ceremony.

Saini highlighted Maharishi Valmiki’s contribution to education and social equality, noting that he provided shelter to Sita during a difficult period and ensured that her sons received education and moral values. He said the Ramayana teaches people to remain patient and steadfast even in challenging circumstances.

Emphasising equality, the Chief Minister said true respect for Maharishi Valmiki lies in practising his teachings rather than limiting devotion to worship. He called for eliminating discrimination based on caste, birth, economic status or occupation, adding that the principle of “Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas, Sabka Prayas” reflects the same spirit of inclusiveness.

Saini also highlighted the recognition accorded to Maharishi Valmiki in Ayodhya, including a temple dedicated to him and an airport named in his honour.

On welfare initiatives, he said the government was providing scholarships, coaching for competitive examinations and hostel facilities for Scheduled Caste students. He added that 604 candidates from the community had been selected in the recent Haryana Police recruitment. He also cited the establishment of state commissions for Scheduled Castes and sanitation workers.

Cabinet Minister Krishan Lal Panwar, addressing the gathering, stressed the importance of education, particularly for girls, and praised efforts to promote social harmony.

Several public representatives and a large number of devotees attended the programme.
