Three AAP MLAs quit in two days, join BJP in Delhi: Kunwar Vijay Pratap also resigns from Punjab Assembly

Chandigarh/Alive News: Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leaders from Punjab joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Delhi on Monday, days after the state unit announced its first list of candidates for the upcoming Assembly elections. The development came after two MLAs resigned from the party on Sunday, while Kunwar Vijay Pratap Singh quit the Assembly on Monday.

The three leaders are Kunwar Vijay Pratap Singh, MLA from Amritsar North, Chetan Singh Jouramajra, MLA from Samana, and Harmeet Singh Pathanmajra, MLA from Sanaur. Kunwar submitted his resignation to Assembly Speaker Kultar Singh Sandhwan. He had been suspended from AAP for five years in June 2025 over alleged anti-party activities. <Cite refs={[“turn991875search1″,”turn991875search3”]}/>

In his resignation letter, Kunwar said his biggest achievement was ending the ‘mai-baap culture’ in politics. He also called for making Punjab a progressive state by addressing issues such as drugs, extortion, gangsterism and corruption. He said his objective was ‘Punjab First’.

Kunwar’s differences with the party had reportedly begun after he became an MLA in 2022. He had repeatedly raised questions over the government’s handling of the sacrilege and Behbal Kalan firing cases.

Jouramajra and Pathanmajra resigned from AAP on Sunday, a day after the party announced its first list of 40 candidates. Jouramajra had earlier served as a minister, while Pathanmajra is facing a rape case and was arrested after returning from Australia, according to the supplied report.

Meanwhile, AAP is expected to seek the disqualification of the two MLAs who resigned from the party.
