Judge’s Minor Son Allegedly Driving Mercedes Kills Scooter Rider in Kerala; Family Alleges Insult

Kerala/Alive News: A 55-year-old scooter rider was killed after a Mercedes-Benz car allegedly driven by the 17-year-old son of an Additional Sessions Judge hit his scooter from behind in Kochi, Kerala, late on Saturday night. The victim’s family has alleged that the judge spoke to them in an insulting manner when they questioned how a minor was allowed to drive the vehicle.

The accident took place between 2 am and 3 am. The car was registered in the judge’s name. Police said the teenager had allegedly taken the vehicle without his parents’ knowledge.

Victim Ran Food Stall for 30 Years

The deceased was identified as Jaibalakrishnan, who had operated a roadside food stall with his wife, Manju, for around 30 years. The stall was located near Chittoor Temple, where he mainly sold vegetarian food, including dosa.

The couple travelled around 20 kilometres by scooter each day to reach the stall. On Saturday night, Jaibalakrishnan was returning home alone after closing the business. His wife was away from work for a week to receive treatment for varicose veins.

Police Register Case Against Minor

According to police, the Mercedes was travelling from Vallarpadam towards Kalamassery when it struck the scooter. Cheranelloor Police detained the teenager at the scene and seized the car.

A case was registered under Sections 281 and 106(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), relating to rash driving on a public road and causing death by negligence.

Police said the preliminary investigation found no indication that the teenager was under the influence of alcohol. Blood samples have been collected for further examination.
