Faridabad/Alive News: J.C. Bose University of Science and Technology, YMCA, Faridabad, marked International Women’s Day with a vibrant event organized by its Women Cell (Internal Complaints Committee – ICC). The celebration honored women’s contributions across spheres and underscored the urgency of advancing gender equality.
The program was graced by the presence of eminent guests, including Prof. Nandita Shukla Singh, , Department of Education, Panjab University Chandigarh as chief guest, and Shri Raj Nehru, Officer on Special Duty (OSD) to the Chief Minister of Haryana, Prof. Bhawna Pandey, Principal, Dyal Singh Evening College, Delhi University and Prof. Jyoti Rana, Registrar, Shri Vishwakarma Skill University, Palwal as distinguished guests. The Program was presided over by Prof. Sushil Kumar Tomar, Vice-Chancellor of the University.
The Program commenced with the traditional lighting of the lamp, followed by inaugural address by Prof. Tomar aligning with the global theme “Accelerate Action.” He stressed that celebrating women’s achievements is vital, but sustained action for equality is imperative,” citing pioneer women like Ahilyabai Holkar and Sarojini Naidu. The Chief Guest, Prof. Nandita Shukla Singh emphasized creating safe workplaces and fostering gender-sensitive education to reshape societal mindsets. She remarked that empowering women is about equality, not superiority.
Addressing the Program, Shri Raj Nehru highlighted the balance of Shiva and Shakti within individuals, adding that “Empowerment begins with self-awareness; solutions lie within us.” In her address, Prof. Jyoti Rana advocated for work-life integration over balance, advising women to prioritize principles over likability and Prof. Bhawna Pandey reflected on India’s historical reverence for women’s resilience, noting, “Women’s Day is a Western concept, but our society has long celebrated women’s strength.
The debut edition of the J.C. Bose Journal of Engineering, Technology and Sciences – curated entirely by the University’s female faculty – was unveiled, marking a leap in academic inclusivity.
Student-led performances, from traditional dances to spoken-word poetry, electrified the audience, reflecting the University’s creative spirit.
The event concluded with a vote of thanks by Prof. Sandhya Dixit, acknowledging the contribution of speakers and applauded the dedicated efforts of ICC Members including Prof. Neelam Turk, Prof. Maneesha Garg, Prof. Lakhwinder Singh, Ms Renu Dagar and Ms Arti Singh ensuring a memorable and impactful celebration of International Women’s Day.
