Gold Prices Vary Across Cities
Gold prices can differ from one city to another due to several factors. Transportation and security costs affect the final price. Local demand and supply, jewellery association rates and the purchase prices paid by jewellers also influence rates.
Gold Up ₹8,000, Silver Down ₹49,000 This Year
Despite recent fluctuations, gold has gained around ₹8,000 in 2026. Its price was approximately ₹1.33 lakh per 10 grams on December 31, 2025, compared with ₹1.41 lakh currently.
Silver, however, has become cheaper by around ₹49,000 per kg. Its price declined from ₹2.30 lakh at the end of 2025 to ₹1.81 lakh.
Both metals recorded record highs on January 29, when gold reached ₹1.76 lakh per 10 grams and silver touched ₹3.86 lakh per kg.
Two Things to Check Before Buying Gold
Buyers should keep two important points in mind while purchasing gold:
- Check BIS Hallmark: Always purchase gold jewellery with a valid BIS hallmark to verify its purity.
- Compare Prices: Check the daily gold rate and confirm the jewellery’s weight and purity before making payment.
Gold prices differ according to purity, with separate rates for 24-carat, 22-carat and 18-carat gold. Buyers should also check making charges and applicable taxes before completing their purchase.
