Faridabad prepares Rs1,486-cr proposal for smart city project

Faridabad: The Municipal Corporation, Faridabad, (MCF) has submitted a draft of the smart city proposal to the state government.
Sources said the draft would be presented to the Centre for the selection of the first 20 smart cities on Monday.
Faridabad and Karnal have been included in the 100 cities to be developed as smart cities.
“We have prepared the draft (detailed project report or DPR) after collecting suggestions from various sections of society. December 15 was the last date to submit the report to the state government,” said MCF commissioner Ashok Kumar Sharma.
He said Rs1,486 crore would be required in five years for the project. Of this, Rs500 crore each will be provided by the Centre and the state government. The rest will be funded by various departments (or generated locally).
“The DPR has been prepared with the help of professional consultants, for which a budget of Rs2 crore was allotted to the MCF,” Sharma said.
He added 7.34 lakh residents had provided suggestions through online and social media portal launched by the MCF.
Retrofitting concept
The area covered under the retrofitting concept will have cemented roads, footpaths and cycling tracks, solar streetlights, underground cable network for electricity and phone lines, round-the-clock water and power supply, treatment of sewage water, development of parks and green belts and smart system of water drainage.
Two models of development
