Business/Alive News: The Indian stock market extended its losing streak for the third consecutive session on Thursday, October 22, 2026, amid volatile trading and weak global cues. The BSE Sensex fell around 460 points to close at 73,249, while the NSE Nifty 50 slipped to 22,687, ending below the 22,690 mark.
Both benchmark indices witnessed fluctuations during the session, with markets recovering some early losses before finishing in negative territory. Most major Asian markets also traded lower, reflecting cautious investor sentiment across the region.
Crude Oil Prices Rise
Oil prices moved higher amid concerns over global supply. Brent crude rose 1.55% to $110.51 per barrel, while US crude gained 1.23% to $98.34 per barrel. Rising oil prices can put pressure on India’s economy by increasing import costs and potentially adding to inflation.
Asian Markets Trade Lower
Asian markets ended mostly in the red. South Korea’s KOSPI fell 1.17% to 5,670, Japan’s Nikkei 225 declined 0.73% to 64,185, and Hong Kong’s Hang Seng dropped 1.81% to 23,159.
In contrast, US markets closed higher in the previous session on October 21. The Dow Jones gained 0.69% to 52,856, the Nasdaq rose 1.05% to 26,703, and the S&P 500 advanced 0.58% to 7,757.
Jio Platforms IPO in Focus
Investors also tracked the ₹30,188-crore Jio Platforms IPO, which opened on October 21 and is scheduled to close on October 23. Retail investors need ₹13,428 to apply for one lot of 12 shares at the upper price band of ₹1,119.
Market participants will continue to monitor global trends, crude oil prices and IPO-related activity for further direction.
