‘World Earth Day’ celebrated at JC Bose University

Faridabad/Alive News: J.C. Bose University of Science and Technology, YMCA, Faridabad today marked World Earth Day 2025 with a dynamic event centered on the theme “Our Power and Our Planet”, emphasizing the vital role of collective action in safeguarding our environment. The Program was organized by the Department of Environmental Sciences and Vasundhara Eco-club of the University. The celebration underscored the urgency of collective action to address environmental challenges and promote sustainable living.

The event commenced with a ceremonial lamp-lighting, symbolizing hope for a greener future. Shri Krishan Singhal, Deputy General Manager (Retd.), IOCL, Faridabad and Dr. N. P. Shukla, Former Chairman of the Commission for Air Quality Management in the National Capital Region and adjoining areas, New Delhi were the distinguished guests on the occasion. The program was presided over by Prof. Sushil Kumar Tomar, Vice Chancellor of the University. Deans, Chairpersons and faculty members of various departments were present on the occasion.

In his presidential address, Prof. Tomar emphasized, “Adopting sustainable lifestyles is not a choice but a necessity to combat climate change and preserve resources for future generations.” He urged the community to integrate eco-conscious practices into daily life.

Shri Krishan Singhal bridged ancient wisdom with modern challenges, citing teachings from the Rigveda, Bhagavad Gita, and Guru Granth Sahib to advocate for environmental stewardship. He highlighted critical issues such as deteriorating air quality, e-waste management, and biodiversity loss in the Aravalis. “Individual actions—from carpooling to supporting green infrastructure—can drive monumental change,” he asserted, endorsing the LiFE (Lifestyle for Environment) initiative.

Dr. N.P. Shukla delivered a compelling keynote, stressing the interconnectedness of human activity and ecological health. Using Ratlam’s water pollution crisis as a case study, he warned against unchecked industrial waste disposal and praised the role of Sal trees in revitalizing water systems. “Every eco-friendly choice we make is a step toward planetary healing,” he remarked.

The event concluded with a vote of thanks by Dr. Anita Girdhar (Assistant Professor), who acknowledged the organizing team led by Dr. Renuka Gupta (Department Chairperson) and faculty members, including Dr. Preeti Sethi, Dr. Sakshi, Dr. Harish Kumar, and research scholars.
