Stem Cell Bike Rally held in Asian Hospital

Faridabad/ Alive News: Asian Hospital to bring awareness among people on the eve of Blood Cancer Day a steam cell rally took out on May 29, 2017 here today. The programme was moving ahead by lighting the lamp by the Chief guest, Dr Asim Tiwari HOD of Transfusion Medicision-Medanta including Admin Director of Asian Hospital Anupam Pandey, Neha Pandey Director of International Patent Department, Dr D.K Kesar, Dr Ramesh Chandna, Dr P.S Ahuja, Dr Prashant Mehta, Dr Neetu Singhal, Dr Rohit Nayyar Dr Rahul Bhargava Fortis Hospital and Dr Jasmeet Kaur, Lal Pathar Labs.

Dr Prashant Mehta, head of Bone Marrow Transplant Unit of Asian Hospital told that in India around thousands of people die every year  with blood cancer due to lack of timely treatment. Their prime reason to die is to not meet matching donors of their same steam cell. According to the data, the number of registered donors is very low in the absence of awareness. To increase awareness among people about stem cell transplant or bone marrow transplant, 70 bikers rally was held. Apart from this, steam cell donor was also registered in the registry of Jean Bandhu, in which people excitedly participated. During the programme around 48 people got their name registered for stem cell.

Dr Prashant says around 3 crore donors is registered in the whole world, but only 3.5 lakh donor is registered in India, in this situation, it is too important to bring awareness in people. He further said matching of bone cell in relative is all time not possible, in such a way, transplantation from non-relative donors matching for blood cancer and blood diseases is the best treatment. The person’s HLA is checked to match. Such a treatment is available in few hospitals of Delhi-NCR, in which Asian Institute of Medical Sciences and Cancer Center Hospital is also included, and 10 successful bone marrow transplants have also been done in the hospital so far.

At the end, Anupam Pandey, the administrative director of Asian Hospital, said stem cell bike rally called a new Kiran has been organized to bring awareness among people about stem cells. He said more and more people should participate to donate stem cell, so that needy can be given life.
