Ambala/ Faridabad: Urban Local Bodies Minister Kavita Jain said today that the government would soon announce a new policy to resolve the issue of unauthorised colonies in the state. The minister said that a policy had been prepared and it would be announced by the end of May. “Under this policy, while the already developed unauthorised colonies will be provided facilities, there are provisions to ensure that no such colonies mushroom in future,” she said.
Kavita was here to hold a review meeting of the work done in Ambala Division. Officials of the Urban Local Bodies Department, Municipal Corporation and public representatives were present on the occasion.
“Under the AMRUT scheme of the Central Government, special attention is being paid to improve the basic facilities, including water supply and sewerage in urban areas. As many as 18 districts of the state have been selected under the scheme for which the Centre has approved Rs 2,565.74 crore. The budget will be spent in three stages,” she said.
Kavita said: “For waste management under the Swachh Bharat Mission, the state has been divided into 15 clusters. The government has plans to generate electricity in the solid waste treatment plant which would be set up in Ambala.” She also reviewed the work done under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana, ODF, Swachh Bharat Abhiyan and other projects.
She said that all information regarding properties, facilities and problems of all wards under the municipal corporation, municipality and committee would be available on the GIS application.
About the poor rankings in the Swachh Survekshan, she said: “Our rankings have improved. Points of ODF, setting up cluster-wise solid waste management plants and door-to-door garbage collection are included while deciding the rankings. We will achieve the ODF target this year, the solid waste management plants are being set up and other projects would also start taking shape by the end of this year and it will improve our rankings further.”
