Bangladesh Opener Shadman Islam Carried Off on Stretcher After Ankle Injury, Doubt Over Second Test

Sports/Alive News: Bangladesh opener Shadman Islam suffered an ankle injury on the second day of the second Test against the West Indies in Sylhet. He had to be carried off the field on a stretcher, raising doubts about his participation in the remainder of the match.

The incident took place during the 78th over when Shadman slipped while chasing the ball near the fine-leg boundary. His ankle twisted as he fell while attempting to pick up the ball. Replays showed that dew on the outfield may have caused him to slip.

Shadman remained in pain near the boundary for several minutes. His teammates rushed to help him before medical staff brought a stretcher and carried him off the field.

Injury Occurred During Mehidy Hasan Miraz’s Over

The injury happened after West Indies batter Aamir Jangoo gently guided a delivery from Mehidy Hasan Miraz towards fine leg. Shadman ran from the slip region to stop the ball but lost his footing and injured his ankle.

His availability for the remaining match is yet to be confirmed. If he cannot return, Bangladesh could face difficulties with their batting options.

Shadman Scored a Century in the First Test

The injury comes after Shadman produced an impressive performance in the first Test, scoring a century.

Meanwhile, West Indies were batting in their first innings when the incident occurred. On the opening day, they scored 235 runs for the loss of four wickets in 70 overs. Play was stopped early due to poor light.
