Sports/Alive News: India’s star badminton player PV Sindhu has qualified for the BWF World Tour Finals 2026. She will compete in the tournament for the first time since 2021. The competition will be held in Hangzhou, China, from December 9 to 13.
Sindhu secured her place after winning the Japan Open and Hylo Open titles and reaching the final of the French Open this season. She last played the World Tour Finals in 2021, when she finished runner-up.
Sindhu’s Strong Performance in 2026
Sindhu won the Japan Open title in July by defeating Japan’s Akane Yamaguchi 21-17, 21-17 in the final. In October, she reached the French Open final but lost to South Korea’s An Se-young.
She bounced back by winning the Hylo Open title in Germany. Sindhu defeated Denmark’s Line Højmark Kjærsfeldt 21-12, 21-14 in the final. She won all five matches at the tournament without dropping a single game.
Sindhu’s Previous World Tour Finals Record
Sindhu won the World Tour Finals title in 2018 after defeating Japan’s Nozomi Okuhara. She was also the runner-up in 2021. Although she qualified in 2022, a stress fracture in her left ankle forced her to withdraw. She did not participate from 2023 to 2025.
Fifth in World Tour Race Rankings
Sindhu is currently sixth in the BWF world rankings with 74,421 points. She is fifth in the World Tour Race rankings with 81,060 points.
Eight players will compete in the women’s singles category. They will be divided into two groups, with the top two players from each group advancing to the semi-finals.
The tournament has a total prize pool of $3.5 million (around ₹29 crore). Sindhu will aim to win the title for the second time after her 2018 triumph.
