Faridabad/ Alive News: Union Minister of State for Social Justice and Empowerment Krishan Pal Gurjar has ordered an inquiry into the poor drainage in the city. The city had witnessed worst waterlogging during recent rainfalls.
Gurjar also pulled up officials of the Municipal Corporation (MC) and the Haryana Urban Development Authority (HUDA) during a meeting of the District Coordination and Vigilance Committee here yesterday. The minister said that he had ordered an inquiry to bring to the fore the ‘discrepancies’ in the development work carried out by the civic agencies. He said a three-member committee headed by the Deputy Commissioner would look into the use of funds amounting to crores of rupees.
The move came after several complaints were filed against waterlogging and flooding of roads and low-lying areas in the city during the recent downpours.
Admitting that the government had assured a robust drainage system this year and released adequate funds for repair and cleaning of drains in the city, a senior official said that the flooding of roads was a cause of concern as it had halted the movement of traffic in almost all parts of the city. Several parts of the city were flooded up to three to four feet of rainwater.
Officials blamed the ongoing work on six-laning of the national highway and the delay in completion of flyovers on the stretch.
Gurjar also ordered relocation of the slum clusters from the bypass road to the housing scheme flats constructed by the MC and HUDA for poor people immediately.
