New Delhi/Alive News: Gangster Lawrence Bishnoi has reportedly been shifted to the high-security ‘200 Kholi’ block of Sabarmati Central Jail in Ahmedabad, where around 200 inmates, including convicts in the 2008 serial blasts case, are housed, according to media reports.
The block is divided into four sections, each accommodating 50 prisoners, with arrangements to restrict movement between sections. Bishnoi’s cell reportedly measures approximately 7.5 by 11 feet. He has been lodged in Sabarmati Jail since May 10, 2023.
The reported transfer is aimed at strengthening security and restricting the operations of his gang. Investigators have reportedly found no direct contact involving Bishnoi in the past two years, although his associates are believed to continue operating from abroad.
Before the shift, Bishnoi was reportedly housed in the ‘10 Kholi’ high-security block, designed to accommodate 10 inmates. He has also been lodged in Tihar Jail in Delhi and prisons in Punjab.
His alleged use of phones from prison to make extortion calls and issue threats has previously attracted scrutiny. Interviews reportedly conducted during his custody and an alleged conversation recording involving gangster Shahzad Bhatti have also raised questions about prison security.
Despite Bishnoi’s incarceration, reports suggest that associates, including Goldy Brar and Rohit Godara, remain linked to the gang’s overseas operations.
Bishnoi reportedly attends court proceedings through video conferencing, while his interactions with lawyers remain subject to prison security arrangements.
