Faridabad/Alive News : J.C. Bose University of Science and Technology YMCA Faridabad today launched a Tree plantation drive on the occasion of World Environment Day as a part of MeriLIFE Mission Movement of Govt. of India as a key to combating climate change and promote plantation. The event was organized by Vasundhara Eco-club and Department of Environmental Sciences of the University. The objective of this event was to initiate a massive plantation drive in-line with ‘One Student, One Tree 2023’ Mission of AICTE.
The Vice-Chancellor of the university, Professor Sushil Kumar Tomar, presided over the program. He emphasized that the World Environment Day 2023 provides hope and an opportunity for all of us to contribute to the protection of the environment and the well-being of the planet at a time when extreme temperatures, unusual storms and cyclones, and natural disasters constantly remind us of the irreparable damage that has been done to Mother Earth.He further informed that university has been taking initiatives to aware the people to encourage lifestyle that focuses on mindful and deliberate utilisation of resources, and aims to change the present ‘use and dispose’ consumption habits.
Sh. Amit Arya, Media Advisor to the Chief Minister Haryana launched the event by planting a Banyan sapling in the campus. He appreciated the efforts made by the University for initiating the plantation drive time to time. Dr. Bharat, University Institute of Legal Studies, Panjab University, Chandigarh was also present on the occasion and planted a Jamun sapling.
Dr Renuka Gupta, Chairperson Incharge of Department of Environmental Sciences and convener of the Eco-club apprised that the plantation drive will continue in the month of July and August 2023. She requested all students, faculty and staff members of the university to plant at least one tree having suitable utility in the respective areas. The name of the Tree may be given on the name of person who planted that tree.
To ensure this, a link will be shared shortly to upload the details about the tree planted by the stakeholders. As an incentive for carrying out plantation, students/ faculty/ staff members will be recognized as Pro Planet People and certificate of appreciation will also be awarded. The event was successfully coordinated by members of Eco-club Dr. Preeti Sethi, Dr. Sakshi Kalra, Dr. SomvirBajar and Dr. Anita Girdhar.
