JC Bose University organizes birth anniversary of Srinivasa Ramanujan

Faridabad/Alive News: J C Bose University of Science and Technology, YMCA, Faridabad in collaboration with Haryana State Council for Science, Innovation and Technology, organized a two-day event to mark the 137th birth anniversary of the genius mathematician Srinivasa Ramanujan which is celebrated as National Mathematics Day in the country. A series of activities have been organized by the Department including lectures of eminent speakers and other student related activities.

The Program inaugurated by the Vice Chancellor Prof. S. K. Tomar and Chief Guest Prof. Renu Chugh, retired Professor from MDU Rohtak. Dean Sciences and Chairperson of the Department of Mathematics, Prof. Neetu Gupta was also present on this occasion. The lecture sessions were addressed by Dr. Arvind Gupta, Associate Professor, IIT Ropar and Prof. Khalil Ahmed, Adjunct Faculty of the University.
In the welcome address, Prof. Neetu Gupta provided a concise overview about the program and explained that mathematics is not merely a subject in our textbooks; rather, it is a tool that empowers us to solve real-world problems.

She advised students to recognize the beauty and power of mathematics. She apprised that the Department has received overwhelming response from various colleges, with a total of 101 teams registering from various NCR Colleges and Universities in different competitions like Quiz, Poster Making, Rangoli etc. Addressing the program, Prof. S. K. Tomar emphasized the profound impact of mathematics and narrating the inspiring legacy of Ramanujan with the audience. Vice-Chancellor encouraged the students by saying, “Ability emerges from action; everyone begins at zero.” He said that everyone is capable to do anything.

In her address, Prof. Renu Chugh shedding light on the practical applications of mathematics in various fields like the use of Fractal Symmetry. She continued the legacy of Sir Ramanujan in her talks. She enlightened on vowels of mathematics given by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi ji, A-Accountability, E-Efficiency, I-Inclusivity, O-Opportunity, U-Universalism. She talked about NASA Scientists Katherine Johnson and G.H. Hardy. She has also shown how nature is connected to mathematics beautifully. She advised students to be passionate and dedicated in life. She enlightened us about the awards in the field of Mathematics which are Field Medal and Leelawati Prize etc.

In expert talk, Prof. Arvind Gupta shared his valuable thoughts on the topic “Cellular Automation Models of Highway Traffic Flow” while in the second talk, Prof. Khalil Ahmed talked about “Application of Wavelets”. The program ended with distribution of Mementos to the delegates and a vote of thanks by Dr. Reena Garg, coordinator of the event.
