Faridabad/ Alive News: The United Nation International ‘Literacy Day’ annually falls on September 8th to raise people’s awareness and concern for literacy issues in the world. The ‘World Literacy Day’ was celebrated on 8th of September in Homerton Grammar School.
During this the students of class IX went to a nearby school named ‘Prakashdeep’ to teach the students. With the slogans like ‘Each one teaches one’ and ‘Literacy is the best remedy’, they made the students know about their environment and the various changes taking place around them. They also made them aware about the diseases like malaria, dengue, typhoid, jaundice etc. spreading in their areas and about the preventive measures to be taken. They focused on cleanliness and hygienic conditions of the surroundings.
They encouraged them to read good books for vocabulary enhancement and knowledge. Colouring competitions were organized and prizes were distributed. On behalf of Homerton, they also distributed sweets to the students.
Sharing information on this occasion, the Principal of school Mrs. Archana Dogra said Homertonians believe that literacy is at the heart of basic education for eradicating poverty, reducing child mortality, population growth and ensuring sustainable development, peace and democracy.
