Chandigarh/Alive News: The Haryana government is strengthening early childhood education at Anganwadi centres through play-based learning activities aimed at improving the physical, mental, emotional and social development of children aged three to six years, Women and Child Development Minister Shruti Choudhry said.
She said the initial years of a child’s life are crucial for overall development and laying the foundation for future learning. Under the ‘Aage Badhe Bachpan’ initiative, the Women and Child Development Department is encouraging age-appropriate learning through engaging activities that help children acquire basic skills in an enjoyable environment.
To support the initiative, the department has provided teaching-learning materials (TLM) to Anganwadi centres. These resources enable children to learn through games, conversations and interactive exercises rather than relying solely on conventional teaching methods.
Play-Based Learning to Improve Communication and Cognitive Skills
Shruti Choudhry said activity-based learning helps children develop language and communication skills by encouraging them to listen, speak, express their thoughts and understand others.
Such activities also strengthen cognitive abilities, including memory, reasoning, comprehension and problem-solving. Exercises involving colours, shapes, counting, classification and everyday experiences introduce children to basic concepts in a practical and engaging manner.
The minister added that group activities help children learn the importance of cooperation, sharing, taking turns and interacting with others. These experiences also contribute to building self-confidence, emotional stability and independence.
Anganwadi Centres to Prepare Children for Formal Schooling
Choudhry said play-based activities at Anganwadi centres play an important role in preparing children for school. By making learning enjoyable and interactive, the initiative aims to develop curiosity and encourage children to participate actively in the learning process.
Early exposure to foundational concepts and social interaction can help children transition more confidently into formal education. She emphasised that ensuring equal opportunities for every child to learn and progress remains a priority for the state government.
The Women and Child Development Department aims to create a supportive and stimulating environment at Anganwadi centres where children can learn through play, discover their abilities and develop the confidence needed for their future education.
