Five Jamia Students Continue Hunger Strike for 13th Day, Classes Shift Online

New Delhi/Alive News: The hunger strike by five students of Jamia Millia Islamia University entered its 13th day on Saturday, with protesters demanding the restoration of the Jamia Millia Islamia Students’ Union (JMISU) and the removal of the chief proctor. The students’ union was dissolved in March 2006.

Amid the ongoing protest, the university administration announced that classes for all courses would be conducted online until further notice. Faculty members were directed to make arrangements for online classes and provide necessary assistance to students.

The All India Students’ Association (AISA) accused the administration of targeting protesters and alleged that students at the protest site were being attacked.

Jasim Ali Khan, who has been on hunger strike since the beginning, demanded the withdrawal of student suspensions. Another protester, Anas, called for the withdrawal of show-cause notices issued by the proctor and disciplinary committee. He said the protest would continue until the students’ union was restored.

The protesters also denied involvement in “Free Kashmir” graffiti found on campus and demanded a probe, including an examination of CCTV footage. They maintained that their demonstration had remained peaceful.

The protest began on October 12, and tensions escalated after Delhi Police attempted to remove students from the designated protest site.

FIR Registered Over Posters Inside Delhi Metro

In a separate development, Delhi Police registered an FIR against unidentified persons after two posters criticising the government were found inside a train on the Airport Express Line.

According to the FIR, a DMRC train operator discovered the posters on October 20 and informed senior officials. The posters contained slogans questioning the government’s performance and a QR code inviting readers to join an online group.

Police seized the posters, and the Special Cell is also involved in the investigation. Efforts are underway to identify those responsible for putting them up.
