Faridabad/ Alive News: Air quality in the city is already at its lowest and the situation is not going to be better in view of Diwali. The Particulate Matter (PM 2.5) level, the main constituent of air quality index, was recorded at 336 micrograms per cubic metre around 10 am today.
This went down and settled at 245 around 4 pm. The PM level again crossed 300 micrograms by 6 pm. It is expected to be between 330 and 400 till 6 am on Sunday.
Safe or ideal level of PM 2.5 is 60 or less. Any level between 100 and 200 is considered “unhealthy”. The air quality becomes “very unhealthy” if PM 2.5 level remains between 200 and 300. Any recording above 300 is “hazardous”.
The air quality index is likely to be recorded at 600 or more because of pollution to be caused by bursting of crackers.
JB Sharma, Regional Officer, Haryana State Pollution Control Board (HSPCB), said: “The gravity of the situation depends on the volume of crackers that will be burst on Diwali.”
He said the HSPCB tried to create awareness against bursting of crackers.
The Health Department has declared Faridabad as one of sensitive zones in the state with regard to asthma and respiratory diseases.
